The Marquèze ecomuseum takes visitors back in time

When you visit this open-air museum, you'll take a step back in time to 1870.
The little train, with its classified carriages, allows visitors to explore the Landes department in a different era, through a number of themed areas.

You'll discover

  • many tips about medicinal plants
  • the life of shepherds and methods for obtaining wool
  • how to harvest wheat and operate a mill
  • bread-making (typical Landes recipe in 1890)

The activities on offer are as fascinating for children as they are for adults.

TheMarquèze Ecomuseum in Sabres also offers activities for school groups.
Children aged 7 to 12 (middle school level) can take part in a wide range of activities.
They can learn how to bake bread, watch wool being made and other enriching experiences.
There's also a temporary exhibition on a theme related to the Landes de Gascogne.
3 trails are also available on tablet, you can download the adventure and follow the steps as you visit with your children.
The 3 themes are :

 

  • In the footsteps of the Métayers", a 2-hour tour, "Pierre", the character in the story, guides you through his way of life.
  • Sur les pas des femmes de l'époque", lasting 2 hours. "Jeanne", the estate owner's wife, invites you to follow her through a typical day.
  • Playful stroll", to discover the daily life of all the inhabitants in 1 h 30.

 

Theecomuseum offers group bookings for groups of ten or more.
Groups of 10 or more can take part in specially-organized activities, and can choose from a range of workshops, such as discovering gemmage (harvesting pine sap).
This package also includes a themed meal. Enjoy typical Landes recipes from the period!
