Shall we go camping?
Bivouacs are synonymous with vacations and a change of scenery. So, during your stay at one of our campsites, why not plan a night under the stars in a local mountain, national park or forest?
Another way to live your days
In our busy daily lives, days often fly by at breakneck speed. We tick boxes, move from one task to the next, and fill out lists. The famous to-do list has become our benchmark. It guides us, gives us structure... but it also sometimes draws us into a rhythm that leaves little room for what really matters.
At Slow Village, we like to imagine a different way of experiencing time. A gentler, more mindful approach. A way of slowing down that isn't limited to vacations, but can be incorporated into our daily lives.
What if we swapped our must-dos for verbs that make us feel good? The idea isn't to revolutionize your schedule, but to slip in a few breaks to catch your breath and listen to yourself a little more.
The To-Do List often keeps us busy: responding, organizing, anticipating, planning. The Tout Doux List, on the other hand, brings us back to mindfulness. To what we feel, what we observe, what makes us feel good.
It's not about neglecting your responsibilities. Rather, it's about striking a balance. It's about slipping in a few select moments amid your obligations to reconnect with yourself and the world around you.
Turn a busy day into a day well lived.
Awakening the senses
Smell the aroma of coffee in the morning. Take a short walk in the fresh air. Listen to the wind in the trees. Let yourself be touched by simple but very real details.
Self-compassion
Accept that you can't control everything. Allow yourself a break without feeling guilty. Speak to yourself gently, as you would to someone you love.
Connecting with others
Sharing a smile. Taking the time to really listen. Saying thank you, laughing together. Simple gestures that change the texture of a day.
Anchoring yourself in the moment
Breathe deeply. Look up at the sky. Pause for a few seconds to feel that you are here, now.
In a world that values speed and efficiency, slowing down may seem counterintuitive. And yet, it is often in these quieter moments that we find clarity, energy, and meaning.
Slowing down isn't wasting time. It's giving it back its value.
It's rediscovering the pleasure of simple things: turning the pages of a book, listening to music without doing anything else, watching the light change at the end of the day. These discreet, almost invisible moments are often the ones that stay with us.
Vacations are often a time when we naturally rediscover this slower pace. We take the time to walk, talk, and do nothing without feeling rushed. The idea is to let this feeling continue, even after we return home.
A few simple ideas to instill this mindset:
In the morning
Before checking your phone, take a few minutes to breathe and imagine how you would like to feel throughout the day.
At lunchtime
Step outside for a few moments, even if only briefly. Find a spot surrounded by nature, a bench, a ray of sunshine. Just to break the rhythm.
In the evening
Instead of thinking about everything that still needs to be done, think back to a moment that made you smile. Even if it was just a tiny thing.
Add a little Tout Doux to your to-do list
The next time the pressure mounts, ask yourself a simple question: "What is the sweetest thing I can treat myself to right now?"
Sometimes it's drinking a glass of water. Stretching. Looking out the window. Letting a moment exist without trying to fill it.
Deep down, it's not the tasks we've accomplished that we remember, but the moments when we felt fully present.
Present. Alive. At peace.
