Ready to set sail? Practical tips for your reservation
How do I choose the departure pier?
The Gulf has several major departure ports. Your choice will depend mainly on where you live. Vannes and Port-Navalo (Arzon) are the two main hubs, but there are also regular departures from Baden (Port of Larmor-Baden) and Locmariaquer.
Where to park? The municipalities of the departure ports have set up large park-and-ride lots—some free, some paid—on the outskirts of the ferry terminals. In the summer, parking spaces right next to the docks are full; plan to arrive at least 45 minutes before departure time so you can park and make your way to the ferry company’s ticket counter without rushing.
When is the best time?
The ideal season runs from May through September, when you can enjoy plenty of sunshine and pleasant temperatures on deck. August is often fully booked weeks in advance. If you’re looking for a more peaceful experience, June and September offer incredible light on the water and much fewer crowds.
What to take on board
Even under the bright summer sun, the sea breeze quickly cools the air as soon as the speedboat picks up speed. Be sure to pack the following in your bag:
- A windbreaker or a warm sweater (a must at sea).
- Sunglasses and sunscreen (the glare off the water can be deceiving).
- Comfortable flat shoes for getting around on board and exploring the islands.
