5 great Cévennes walks to discover

Do you love short walks or long hikes? We've got good news for you: one of our Slow Village is right in the heart of the Cévennes. This open-air hotel in Anduze is ideal for exploring the region in complete tranquillity. With almost 5,000 km of marked trails, the Cévennes National Park is an exceptional playground. More than 300 PR loop itineraries cross the mountains, gorges and valleys of the Massif Central. A unique setting for discovering a remarkable natural and cultural heritage, between Lozère, Tarn and Pont de Montvert.

1. The Old Bridge at Saint-Jean-du-Gard

Share a simple, joyful moment with your family! This easy loop starts in Saint-Jean-du-Gard, 15 minutes from Anduze, on a yellow-marked trail. It's perfect for introducing children (aged 5-6 and over) to family hiking in the Cévennes.

The path runs alongside the Gardon through undergrowth, guaranteeing shade and coolness. Along the way, you'll come across the 18th-century Pont Vieux, a Protestant temple, a castle and lovely views of Mont Brion.

Between local heritage and accessible nature, this hike is one of the most suitable for young and old alike. A gentle stroll to discover the Cévennes Park in a different way.

Difficulty: very easy; distance: approx. 5.2 km; duration: approx. 1h40; altitude difference: 150 m.

2. Le Rocher de Peyremale

Leaving from Anduze, this second hike is an excellent warm-up. It's one of the most beautiful half-day hikes in the Cévennes.

The path climbs gently to the top of the rock overlooking the town. On arrival, an exceptional panorama of the Gardon valley! You're on a site steeped in history, the former site of a fort. Along the way, you'll also come across the Tour de l'Horloge and the Quai, built in 1774.

This is one of the best walks in the Cévennes to discover the magic of the Massif Central!

Difficulty: easy to medium; distance: approx. 7 km; average time: 2h30, altitude gain: +240 m.

3. The Grande Pallières dolmens

Do you love history and mysterious places? Then this loop, shaded for much of the way, is for you! It starts from the Chemin de la Croix de Pallières. Let yourself be carried away by this signposted route through the heart of the Mediterranean forest. You'll smell the scent of pine trees and the freshness of stone. The trail leads to the discovery of the 4 Grande Pallières dolmens and the Panissière dolmen. These 5 megalithic constructions bear witness to the passage of the first Neolithic inhabitants.

This loop is one of the most memorable hikes in the Cévennes, connecting you to the deep history of the region.

Difficulty: medium; distance: approx. 6.5 km; duration: 2h15; altitude gain: +160 m.

4. The Valaurie circuit via Corbès

Looking for a refreshing getaway? From the village of Corbès, just 3 minutes from our open-air hotel Slow Village Anduze, this loop trail takes you through a beautiful forest in the Cévennes massif. On this shady path, discover a relatively unknown treasure: the Valaurie cave and its 300 meters of underground galleries. Along the way, you'll also enjoy superb views over the Saint-Jean-du-Gard valley.

This is one of the best hikes in the Cévennes, according to the opinions of hikers accompanied by a dog. A short, invigorating hike, ideal for a nature weekend!

Difficulty: fairly difficult; distance: 8 km; duration: 2h45; altitude gain: +200 m.

5. Les Capélans and la Grande Pallières

Looking for a more challenging hike in the Cévennes? This loop, starting from the submersible bridge at Anduze, is for seasoned hikers.

From the very first meters, the yellow-marked trail climbs through the massif to the Grande Pallières and Capélans ridges. It's a steady climb that will put your legs to the test, but the panorama at the top is worth every effort: spectacular views of the Massif Central, Lozère, the Gard plain, and even the Tarn gorges on a clear day.

Between valleys, hills and forests, this is one of the most striking hiking itineraries in the Cévennes. A real "coup de coeur" hike for nature and altitude enthusiasts!

Difficulty: medium to difficult; distance: approx. 16 km; duration: 5h30 - 6h; altitude gain: +450 m.
