A surfer's paradise since the 1950s, the Landes region hosts the world's top surfing competitions every year.
Biscarrosse is one of the renowned spots along the Landes coastline.
The resort is home to some of the most popular spots in the north of the Landes region, and hosts Europe's top-level Junior Pro competition.
Surfing culture has long been established here: it's omnipresent in the resort, through numerous surf schoolsbut also establishments with a surfing spirit and Californian decor.
Surfing is so ubiquitous in Biscarrosse that a concept of electric boards has even been launched to enable enthusiasts to surf the calm waters of the lake!

 

Where to surf in Biscarrosse?

  • La Centrale: at the heart of the resort, this is the busiest area, but you'll also find surf schools and kids' clubs.
  • The South Beach: the favorite spot for locals and seasoned surfers alike, with its powerful swell and high technicality at ebb tide.
  • Vivier beach: at the very north of the resort, this is a well-known and popular spot. It can be reached by a 700-metre path from the parking lot.
  • The North beach: a spot for all surfing levels, appreciated by the most seasoned surfers and easily tamed by beginners. An observatory allows you to analyze surfing conditions from afar. It hosts the international Junior Pro competition.
  • Le Trencat: between Landes and Gironde, the most northerly spot on the Biscarrosse coast, even beyond the Vivier beach. Experienced surfers and lovers of wide open spaces and the great outdoors meet here.

Our tips and tricks for surfing in Biscarrosse

  • Powerful, tubular waves can be surprising.
  • Ideally, if you're just starting out, you should take an introductory lesson at one of the resort's clubs.
  • Wearing a wetsuit is essential in the off-season.
  • In summer, protect yourself at least with a Lycra garment.
  • The ideal wind for surfing in Biscarrosse is from the east, northeast and southeast.
  • Rising tide offers the best surfing conditions, with saturation at 3 metres.
