Visit the Concluses de Lussan: a natural site in the Gard department

Slow Village introduces you to the Gard region and its natural treasures, such as the Concluses de Lussan, a narrow canyon shaped by the River Aiguillon near Lussan ("Most Beautiful Villages in France"). From our open-air hotel in Roque-sur-Cèzediscover wild landscapes, ideal for hiking and natural immersion.

What are the Concluses de Lussan?

The Concluses de Lussan are narrow gorges carved out by the Aiguillon over 6 km, where the river, sometimes discreet, can become impetuous. The canyon offers limestone walls, giant potholes and "Portes" (natural arches). The Aiguillon sometimes disappears underground, making the hike to the Concluses de Lussan a unique experience. This site, classified as a Sensitive Natural Area (ENS), stands out for its raw beauty.

Access and practical tips for visiting the Concluses

Plan your visit to the Concluses de Lussan.

Access: north of Lussan, D643 towards Verfeuil, then "Les Concluses" signs.

Parking: "Parking du Portail des Concluses", arrive early in the season.

Advice:

  • Footwear: walking shoes suitable for stony paths.
  • Water/provisions: essential (no sales).
  • Sun: hat, glasses, cream.
  • Weather: check the weather forecast for the Concluses de Lussan. Avoid the risk of thunderstorms (flooding).
  • Safety: don't go off on your own, let us know where you're going (limited network). These precautions will ensure your visit goes smoothly.

Is it possible to swim at Les Concluses?

Swimming is possible at Concluses de Lussan in the gours de l'Aiguillon (especially in spring, if water is available). Caution: water levels vary (may be dry in summer), access can be difficult, and there is no supervision. Please respect this fragile environment (no non-ecological creams, zero waste). A "natural" bathing experience that must be earned.

Hiking at Concluses de Lussan: the best routes

Les Concluses de Lussan offers several different hikes. The classic route follows the riverbed (approx. 6 km round trip, 2-3 hours, feasible if the riverbed is dry) through the "Portes" and "marmites". The belvedere trail (marked in yellow, forming a 7-8 km loop) overlooks the gorge. Another option leads to the Menhir de la Pierre Plantée.

A map of the Concluses de Lussan (or an IGNrando' type application ) is recommended. Good preparation is essential.
